3 Day Bed and Breakfast Canoe / Kayak Trips
Trip
Itinerary
You will start your trip by meeting your shuttle at our Southampton
location where you will be instructed on the itinerary of your
trip and given the appropriate information. Your vehicle will
remain in the parking lot where you will pick it up at the end
of your trip (don't leave your car keys in your luggage at the
B and B.). You will then be shuttled upstream to a booming town
called Hanover, where your shuttle service will drop you off
with your equipment on the Saugeen River. The Hanover to Walkerton
section of the river will take you approximatly 3 - 5 hours
. As you paddle, please observe the three dams, once used for
hydro electricity and milling. From Hanover to Maple Hill dam,
the water is deep and will move slowly, once you have crossed
over there will be several gentle moving rapids. This section
of the river is heavily wooded and will make you feel as though
you are very secluded. Your first night stay will be at the
Viewfield Inn where you may dine in the home or eat in
the Town of Walkerton. Your equipment will be taken care of
for you and a shuttle from downtown will be provided if you
require one.
Your second day will start off with a delicious breakfast and
a comfortable 6 - 9 hour paddle from Walkerton to Paisley. As
you paddle you will notice a multitude of high sand and clay
bluffs that are home to swallows and kingfishers. You will travel
with your luggage to the GAR HAM BED AND BREAKFAST in
the quaint town of Paisley where you will be spending the night.
When you arrive in Paisley, pull your canoe or kayak up on shore
and go for a leasurely stroll to the Gar Ham Bed and Breakfast
where John and Muriel will be more than happy to accommodate
you, by picking up your boat and storing it for safe keeping.
They will welcome you to a beautiful suite (request if you would
prefer single or double beds in advance).
After you are settled in your room take a stroll down town Paisley,
it has many restaurants for you to chose from. Everything from
great Pizza to a restaurant and antique store in one.
Next day enjoy a full breakfast and make an early departure
as this portion of the trip will be approximately 6 - 9 hours
to reach your destination point at Denny's Dam in Southampton.
You pass SAUGEEN
BLUFFS CONSERVATION AREA where you are more than welcome
to stretch your bones (last stop for real washrooms before the
Dam). There are several gentle rapids between Paisley and Southampton.
As you paddle downstream, the river is braided by sandy, treed
islands which are segments of the historic delta.
